Born in Los Angeles, the world of music is no stranger to Jhene. She is one of five children, two brothers and two sisters, each in their own right musically inclined. Their father, a physician, also had a love for singing and built a studio in their home so all could pursue their musical interest. Their mother co-manages the careers of her talented extraordinary children.Jhenes mother discovered that she had a talent for writing songs before she could actually write. Her mother recounts that Jhene was 3 years old when she first asked her mother to write down rhymes for her! Earlier this year, Black Hippy crew-member Schoolboy Q dropped one of the best albums of the year with his standout project, Habits & Contradictions.

Schoolboy Q might have some competition for rap album of the year and it’s coming from fellow Black Hippy crew member, Ab-Soul.

The least known member of the crew just dropped his latest project, Control System, which is the follow-up to last year’s Mentality.

The opening track off of the album is the soulful and introspective “Soulo Ho3″ which features the vocals of Jhene Aiko.

On the track Ab spits:

“Solo, hoe. The one and only. You ni*gas know me. Your b*tches want me. Determination, I got a grip. 95 Locs, I am not a crip. Blood sweet and tears, hotel tears. Your short-term tall tales won’t sell here.”
