For women in R&B it is truly a competition on who has the best vocals and music. We have people like Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Sade, and more. Then there is Jhené Aiko, a Cali girl with so much soul, that she truly is sailing. Many may know Jhené from the vocals of a summer-hit song “July” featuring Drake. The song took blogs by storm and it truly introduced Jhené to the world. Miss Aiko has been in the music industry for quite some time now, when back in the day B2K was signed with Epic Records, she was signed as well. She served as the opening act for B2K on the Scream Tour 3.
Jhené was humble enough to open up to KillerHipHop.com and have a one-on-one conversation with Eric Kidd on what’s Miss Aiko has been up to, her new deal with producer NO I.D., Drake, Yeezy, upcoming project and so much more. (more…)
Jhene Aiko is now Part of DefJam Big Family, She tweeted the last Thursday night. Im very Exited about that. I’m with the expectation what will gonna happen the next year.

Jeremy: Hello Jhene how are you? First off I would like to say thank you for agreeing to interview with me it means a lot. How are you?
Jhene: I am doing great actually!
Jeremy: You just released your new mix-tape “ Sailing Souls “ what was your though process recording this mix-tape?
Jhene: You know what, I was doing a lot at that time, I was working at a vegan café’ as a waitress, my daughter was like one and a half, and I had so much going on that I needed to focus on one thing because I had so much on my mind and so much to say. I think the mix-tape was just like a build up of things over the past 2 years.
Jeremy: When you first was introduced to us you was working with EPIC /T.U.G Records and than you stopped music and decided to go back to school and pursue your education. What was that transition like and where was your mindset?
Jhene: I Have always been a person that was all about balance so even when I was with T.U.G and Sony/EPIC I still had my foot in like being a regular kid, I still had all my friends that were in regular school because I was homeschooled when I got signed. It was just was not a hard transition. I am in love with regular life. I am in love with having a regular job and going to school and its just so humbling. I just really appreciate the small things.

Every now and then an artist comes along and makes a big splash. Sometimes they’re new, other times they’re a bit seasoned and are showing a side listeners have never seen. This is the case with Cali songstress Jhené Aiko—who most recently was known as the girl with snippets and surprise songs on the defunct R&B group B2K’s albums.
Now re-launched into the spotlight — thanks to the success of her mixtape Sailing Soul(s) — Aiko’s future has never looked brighter. Pushing the less traveled ambient soul music genre with a distinguished voice and an unbreakable indie mindset, Aiko is headed in the right direction to uphold the hype.
